In this 10-minute spoken-word performance, six youth representatives from Encode Canada enter a corrupted computer program called AI_Governance, only to encounter a fatal error: transparency not found, culture undefined, equity missing. As the script crashes, they embark on a collective mission to debug the system—receiving letters from a future where AI regulation works, offering guidance for the present.
Structured like a live software patch, System Reboot invites the audience to witness the unraveling of today’s extractive, top-down decision-making models and imagine what governance could look like if built like an open-source project: inclusive, accountable, and just.
By confronting the failures of the current system, this performance reclaims agency, centers youth voices, and issues a powerful call: we have the power to write the fundamental protocols of future systems—ones that are honest, collective, and free.
Encode Canada is the Canadian chapter of Encode, a youth-led organization working toward safe and equitable AI futures for all.
