Matthew Biederman is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores perception, media saturation, and data systems through performance, installation, and video since the mid-1990s. He has exhibited internationally across North and South America, Europe, and Japan, at events including the Lyon and Moscow Biennales, the Québec and Montréal Triennales, Artissima, Sonic Acts, and FILE (São Paulo). His film and video works have appeared at the New Forms Festival, Edinburgh Fringe, and the Chicago Underground Film Festival.

Biederman has held artist residencies at institutions such as the Center for Experimental Television, CMU’s CREATE Lab, and Wave Farm. In 2007, he co-founded the Arctic Perspective Initiative (API), an international nonprofit focused on developing open communications and data infrastructure for circumpolar communities. API’s work bridges art, science, and community and has been widely exhibited in solo and group exhibitions worldwide.

Since 1999, Biederman has also collaborated with musicians and sound artists such as Pierce Warnecke, Volokno, and Alain Thibault, creating live visual performances for a wide range of audiovisual projects at venues and festivals such as Théâtre du Châtelet (Paris), Ars Electronica, MUTEK, Elektra, AV Festival, Futuresonic, and FILE. His public works and commissioned pieces have appeared in festivals and biennials around the world.
