Raphaël Moreira GonçalvesFR
French multidisciplinary artist Raphaël Moreira Goncalves looks for pathways to other dimensions. Through augmented reality sculptures, video games and computer-generated images, he offers works that bridge the gap between reality and fiction, but also put emphasis on the spiritual and mystical aspects of the virtual world. Having graduated from Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains in 2015 and Lyon’s École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in 2012, his work has been showcased around the world, most notably at the Thaddaeus Ropac Pantin Gallery in Paris, at the Clearview Gallery in London and at the Mohsen Gallery in Tehran.
Raphaël Moreira Gonçalves FR — M.I.T.M. (Man in The Mirror)
Concurrently inspired by Michael Jackson’s song, whose video clips showed frenzied crowds in packed stadiums, and by YouTube star Buff Correll, who records himself singing karaoke alone in front of his bedroom mirror, Man in the Mirror is intended as a reflection on notions of the private and the public, the inward and the outward, but also on modern depictions of the black body, simultaneously fetishized and despised.
