Can you imagine what the quirky texture of your pickup-lines would be if you knew that all the people around you were taken care of? And that their care wasn't contingent on the pain or exploitation of someone(s) with less power or resources? We can! Once a year, in an act of carefully coordinated nervous system synchronization, tens of thousands of people gather in basketball courts, parking lots, and public parks around the world to sweat, bubble, and groove at the world's first completely distributed party: The Festival of Zero Compromise.

Imagining The Festival of Zero Compromise, the second session is guided by artist and activist Cassie Thornton, who is inviting us into a “safe space” for the unknown, for disobedience, and for unanticipated collectivity. Exchanging with San Farafina, director of Club Sagacité, a creative space for underrepresented communities initiated by the Moonshine collective, and Toronto-based Crip Rave™ collective, which prioritizes Crip, Disabled, Deaf, Mad and Sick body-minds, the session imagines festival futures, marked by increased accessibility, equity, and inclusivity.

Inspired by Thornton’s work The Hologram and guided by host Mouna Andraos, the interactive part of this session teaches festival stakeholders and their caregivers how to give and how to receive care. By doing so, participants collectively develop the skills and relationships desperately needed for the anti-capitalist struggles of the present, and the post-capitalist society of the future.

Please note that this activity will take place partially in French. No prerequisites required.

The Future Festivals Summit is made possible by the support of the Government of Québec. MUTEK acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
