Héli Hontoy-MajorCA/QC
Based in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal, Héli Hontoy-Major is a trans (disciplinary) artist that combines their expertise honed in various research positions through their Political Science, Fashion Design, and Computation Arts degrees. Their multimedia research creation centers human intuition as a scientific methodology and a data visualization tool.
Their experience as a designer and web developer solidified their interest in propagating information through art. They held research positions in various wearables and design labs, such as the IFRC, AbTeC, and the international Abundant Intelligences program at Concordia University, with Fashion Designer Ying Gao at the ESG, and the Diament Research Chair in e-Mental Health at UQAM.
Their Femme (2022) and Data Patterns (2022) projects were presented in the Design and Computation yearly exhibition in 2022 and 2023. Symphenia (2024), completed through the Convergence Initiative, was presented at the Glen Atrium of the McGill Health Research Institute in April 2024.
Their developing project, A bullshit Taxonomy Research About Collecting Treasures (A.B.S.T.RA.C.T.), explores the history of taxonomy and humans’ relationship with nature through a data humanist lens.
