Quantum Music is a talk by Harry Kumar, Founder of MOTH, followed by a demo-performance by artist ILĀ. Together, they present a recent collaboration, RECURSE, which applied quantum machine learning to the domain of musical composition. At the heart of the project is Archaeo, MOTH’s quantum engine. Unlike conventional AI tools, which usually rely on large datasets of scraped content, Archaeo learns from a small corpus of original input data to generate outputs. For RECURSE, MOTH trained a custom quantum model on a curated dataset of original material by ILĀ. This model became a compositional tool for the creation of RECURSE — a single by ILĀ — and RECURSE [infinite mix], a continuously evolving stream of generative music powered by MOTH’s engine. The final musical sequences for RECURSE were generated on a real quantum computer, provided by quantum hardware company IQM. ILĀ’s performance will also incorporate one of MOTH’s first quantum applications, ACTIAS, a synthesiser that applies quantum principles to sound production.

Featuring:

MOTH: MOTH is a quantum technology company shaping the next generation of creativity, media and culture.

ILĀ: Multifaceted artist, producer and vocalist, ILĀ’s work traverses ethereal non-binary vocal timbre, dense sonic textures, pioneering AI production tools and quantum computer music.
