Keara Lightning is a Nehiyaw femme writer, game designer, and researcher from Samson Cree Nation. Her research works to uncover the Indigenous presence and agency obscured by colonial representations of the environment. She channels this research into writing interactive stories and animation on the themes of kinship, environmental restoration, and surviving the apocalypse. Lightning holds the positions of Historian Laureate for the Beaver Hills Biosphere and Lillian Agnes Jones Fellow with the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies. As the lead writer and game designer for Studio Ekosi, an indie studio she co-founded with her sister Caeleigh, Lightning’s contributions have been recognized with the New Digital + Interactive Artist award at the imagineNATIVE Film and Media Arts Festival.
