Lawyer, certified mediator, and inter-arts curator, Valentine Goddard is a member of the AI Advisory Council of Canada and a United Nations expert on AI policy and governance. She is the founder and executive director of AI Impact Alliance (2017), an organisation whose mission is to facilitate responsible AI and steer its use towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. It is recognized as a Digital Arts Research Organisation. Goddard designs and leads transdisciplinary programs that bridge civic engagement and knowledge mobilisation with policy and regulatory innovation. The Art Impact AI programs led to the adoption of international policies that highlight the role of the arts and civil society in digital governance and to the Art X AI Conversation, a coalition joined by over 1000 artists and experts. Goddard takes part in the analysis of emerging AI regulation; is regularly invited to discuss the impact of generative AI; initiated and co-chairs the Gender Equality and the Environment in Digital Economies International Expert Policy. In 2023, she was awarded Mozilla’s Creative Media Award.
