Imagine yourself in a distant future. What does the world look like? How has it shaped you? Dive head first into tomorrow by creating your own avatar, an embodiment of your aspirations and fears for the future. Perhaps you are an engineer working towards a sustainable future in a Solarpunk city… or maybe a forager navigating the uncertainties of an increasingly volatile climate. This workshop aims at exploring the relationship between individual identity and the environment. Using Blender, a free open-source 3D software, participants will be invited to build their avatars of tomorrow with the use of pre-selected existing assets. Pixel Personas: Create your Future Avatar is the opportunity to learn how to manipulate 3D digital objects, basic mesh editing, and the application of materials.
No previous experience with Blender is required. Participants will need a laptop with the latest version of Blender installed. We also recommend having a three button mouse.
This session is hosted by Revital Software, a company that works with Indigenous communities to create interactive language revitalization software. It is inspired by the SKINS 7th Generation Character Design Workshop developed by Aboriginal Territories in Cyberspace and the Initiative for Indigenous Futures.
