Kahentawaks Tiewishaw is Mohawk from Kanehsatake. Her early years were spent attending Kanien’kehá immersion school, growing traditional medicines, and practicing ceremonies. These experiences granted her both a strong sense of cultural identity and responsibility. They also inform much of her artistic practice today.
After earning her DEC in Cinema, Video, and Communications from Dawson College in 2013, she then went on to study Computation Arts at Concordia University. She was soon recruited as a Research Assistant for Aboriginal Territories in Cyberspace, and the Initiative for Indigenous Futures.
While working as an RA, Tiewishaw was an instructor in the Skins Workshops. These workshops empower Indigenous youth with the digital media production skills needed to share their community’s stories with the world.
In 2020 she graduated from the Computation Arts program, and in 2021 was promoted to Skins Workshop Associate Director. She simultaneously founded Revital Software, a company that specialises in the creation of Indigenous language learning games. She now works for her company full time.
