1:00 pm - Keynote The Path to Ableton Push 3 presented by Jesse Terry
Ableton Push can be different things to different people. Whether used as a drum machine, a sampler, an expressive synthesizer or the centerpiece of a studio, Push has the potential to adapt to the unique needs of any music maker.
In this keynote, Ableton’s Head of Hardware, Jesse Terry, takes you behind the scenes, tracing the musical inspirations and design philosophies that have shaped Push since its debut in 2012. From the first prototypes to today’s standalone instrument, Jesse will share the creative decisions and artist influences that guided each edition.
You’ll leave feeling inspired, with a deeper understanding of Ableton’s design ethos and the creative thinking behind Push. After the session, you’ll have the opportunity to get hands-on with both Push and Move - Ableton’s latest addition to its ecosystem.
3:00 pm - Panel discussion Approaches to Live Performance with Ouri, Yu Su, Martin Bootyspoon, moderated by Leticia Trandafir (Ableton)
Performing electronic music live involves navigating a complex balance between structure and improvisation, predictability and risk, with the unique possibilities and limitations afforded by the machines and instruments chosen. Live performance invites artists to rethink how their music exists beyond the studio: translating recorded works into engaging, real-time encounters with an audience.
In the context of MUTEK – a festival deeply committed to highlighting live electronic acts over DJs – this panel explores the diverse strategies artists adopt when bringing their music to the stage. What informs their choice of tools and technologies, and how do these differ from their studio setups? How do artists organize their material to enable flexibility while maintaining the integrity of their compositions? Which elements do artists prioritize for hands-on control? How they design their performances to balance risk with reliability?
Through sharing workflows, setups, and decision-making processes, the panelists will offer insight into the practical and creative considerations that underpin live electronic performance.
Please note: This activity will be in English only, without live transcription nor translation. During the event, no interpreter for the Deaf will be present.
