For the first time, MUTEK Forum welcomes The Lumen Prize as a partner, celebrating the Prize's 15th anniversary.

Founded in 2012, The Lumen Prize is the world's leading award for art created with technology, championing artists who push the boundaries of creative practice through digital and emerging media. Notable past winners include MORAKANA, Sasha Stiles, Navid Navab, Sougwen Chung, and Refik Anadol.

In this special session, finalists Peter van Haaften and Michael Montanaro present ON AIR, an interactive sound art installation that transforms audience vocalizations through a series of whimsical kinetic sculptures, culminating in a choral harmony of mirrors and a cacophonous performance of sound, rhythm, and light. Their keynote explores the practice and process behind the work, from the earliest intention to build an enveloping spatialized composition driven entirely by the audience's physical interactions, to the rolling narrative of inflating balloons, pulsing membranes, and modulated light beams that bring it to life.

The session opens with an introduction by Erin Thompson, Chief Creative Officer of the Lumen Prize. The winners announcement follows in November.
