Alexandre Blais is a professor of physics at Université de Sherbrooke, and the scientific director of the Institut quantique. Holder of the Chair in Quantum Computing Architectures, his theoretical research focuses on superconducting quantum circuits for quantum information processing. He is a co-creator of the field of circuit quantum electrodynamics (circuit QED), now recognized as one of the most promising approaches to building quantum computers.

Blais is a member of the College of the Royal Society of Canada, a CIFAR Fellow, and a Fellow of the American Physical Society. His research contributions have been recognized with numerous distinctions, including the Steacie Prize from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Herzberg and Brockhouse Medals from the Canadian Association of Physicists, the Urgel-Archambault Prize from the Association francophone pour le savoir (Acfas), the Rutherford Memorial Medal from the Royal Society of Canada, and a Guggenheim Fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.
