Caroline Monnet is a multidisciplinary artist of Anishinaabe and French heritage, based in Montréal. She studied sociology and communications at the University of Ottawa and the University of Granada in Spain, a foundation that deeply informs the way she approaches her work. Across film, visual art, and installation, her practice examines the lasting effects of colonialism on Indigenous communities while drawing on Anishinaabeg knowledge systems as a framework for reimagining the present and the future.

She has exhibited at institutions including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) and the Whitney Biennial, and her films have screened at Sundance, the Berlinale, and the Toronto International Film Festival, among other major festivals. Her work is held in collections across North America and at the Maison de l'UNESCO in Paris.

Monnet is a recipient of the Prix Pierre-Ayot and was a finalist for the Sobey Art Award in 2020 and in 2026. She was selected for the Cinéfondation Residency at Cannes, received the Merata Mita Fellowship from the Sundance Institute, and was named Compagne des arts et des lettres du Québec in 2023.

Monnet’s practice stands as a testament to the enduring vitality of Anishinaabeg culture and its capacity to transform how we understand art, history, and one another.
