Marie-Ève Levasseur is an interdisciplinary artist currently based in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. Their work unfolds through a variety of media, including video, installation, sculpture, digital printing, 3D animation, and virtual and augmented reality. Levasseur is interested in the notion of process, hybrid becoming, metamorphosis, and potential collaboration with the non-human. Their research is inspired by feminist posthumanism and attempts to identify the place of the material and emotional body in our interpersonal communications via screens. Their projects are propositional, inspired by feminist science fiction, and often involve speculative fabulation. The result is situations imagined or rooted in reality, accompanied by fictional devices, extensions for human and non-human beings that open up a dialogue between species in order to reflect on our mutual dependencies.
Levasseur holds an MA and a Meisterschüler from the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, Germany, and has participated in various residency programs, including Schloss Solitude in Germany (2020) and La Chambre Blanche in Canada (2022). Her installations have been exhibited internationally, including in Montréal, Berlin, Paris, Zurich, Hong Kong and London.
