Mónica Rikić is an electronic artist born and based in Barcelona whose practice focuses on creative coding and handcrafted electronics. Her artistic research investigates the creation of alternative technologies through art, combining philosophy and technology to produce thought-provoking artifacts that foster collective discussions about technology, robotics, and AI. She aims to question and demonstrate the role of artistic research in rethinking and collaborating with techno-scientific advancements, offering new perspectives and encouraging exploration.


She has participated in international festivals such as Ars Electronica, Creative Tech Week NY, Robotronica, and FILE, among others, and exhibited in national institutions such as CCCB, La Capella, or Caixaforum. She received the Catalan National Culture Award 2021 and her work has also been recognized at the Japan Media Arts Festival, A MAZE. Berlin, and the Margaret Guthman Musical Instrument Competition in Atlanta. She has also taken part in artistic residencies at various institutions, including EMAP-Hexagram in Montréal, EMARE in QUT (Australia), Medialab Prado (Madrid), Platohedro (Medellín), and Etopía (Zaragoza), as part of the European ARTificial Intelligence Lab program. Currently, she is an artist in residence in two European S+T+ARTS programs, one in Barcelona (Starts in the city) with Hacte and UPC, and another in Finland (Oulu) at the artistic innovation center of the Oulu University of Applied Sciences (OAMK).
