Paisley Smith is a filmmaker, worldbuilder, and artist whose work lives at the intersection of story and technology. Across narrative cinema, documentary, and room-scale virtual reality, her award-winning projects share a common thread of a belief that imaginative, carefully crafted media has the power to shape how we see the world.
Her commitment to creating thoughtful media for children has been recognized by the Fred Rogers Institute, a distinction that reflects the depth of intention behind her practice. Beyond her own work, Smith has spent over a decade building conditions for other artists to thrive, through sustained involvement with the Sundance Institute’s New Frontier Story Lab, the Unity for Humanity Program at Unity Technologies, and MIT Co-Creation Studio’s Worldbuilding Incubator.
She holds an MFA in Film and Television Production from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. where she studied as a Fulbtight Scholar, and is a current Senior Civic Media Fellow at the USC Annenberg Innovation Lab.\
Smith lives and works in Vancouver on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh, and Squamish Nations.
