In a time when festivals, events, parties, clubs, etc are becoming increasingly corporate, exclusionary, and artwashed, a growing wave of artists, curators, and organizers are reclaiming autonomy by designing their own music spaces and festival ecosystems—returning to the backyards, basements, parks, rooftops, warehouses, across digital worlds and other imaginative spaces.

FEMINAE NOX with the brilliant minds of The Godmother of House Stacey Hotwaxx Hale and Debaser & Pique Founder Rachel Weldon put together this hands-on masterclass to offer a deep dive into how to build sustainable, community-rooted, artist-forward festival spaces from the ground up.

Whether you’re a first-time organizer or an artist dreaming of curating your own stage, this session equips you with the creative frameworks, production hacks, and ethical strategies to go from vision to impact—without waiting for institutional permission.

This 2-hour masterclass will break participants into small groups to co-design and present a mock artist-forward festival or music-space—complete with ethos, lineup, budget, funding sources, accessibility, community engagement, and anti-extractive policies

Who It’s For:

- Priority will be given to Black, Brown, Indigenous, and other racialized women. Allies are welcome. First come, first serve; limited slots available
- Emerging curators and producers
- Artists wanting to self-host
- Community organizers and space-makers
- Anyone who’s felt excluded from traditional festival culture

Please note: During the event, no interpreter for the Deaf will be present.

This is a limited-capacity activity. Please use the RSVP link on MUTEK Forum application to secure your spot. Registrations open on August 14. Note that extra spots will be available 15 minutes before the event on a first come, first serve basis.
