A tenacious entrepreneur, David Lavoie helped found the Théâtre Aux Écuries, a theatrical incubator of which he was general manager from 2005 to 2012. The following year, the Conseil québécois du théâtre awarded him its Sentinelle prize in recognition of this outstanding achievement. As co-founder of the Festival du Jamais Lu, Lavoie was its administrative director until 2012. In this role, he also supported the local and international activities of the Théâtre de la Pire Espèce, and worked with the Théâtre du Grand Jour and the Festival du nouveau cinéma.
Involved in the professional and institutional issues facing his community, Lavoie shares his expertise with a number of cultural organizations. He has sat on the boards of the Association des compagnies de théâtre, the Association des diffuseurs spécialisés en théâtre, Liberté magazine and RUBBERBAND, and now sits on the board of the Partenariat du Quartier des spectacles. He was co-chair of the Conseil québécois du théâtre from 2016 to 2018, along with Brigitte Haentjens.
Trained in business administration at HEC Montréal, the FTA's general manager also holds a diploma in international diplomacy from ENAP, as well as a black belt in Kung Fu.
