Workshop
Hailing from a local community of experimental artists, Simon Chioini creates music with a hybrid aesthetic, blending genres and electronic sounds. Through acousmatic and technoid works, his forays into concert and club music have deep roots, drawn from his academic research and a genuine passion for the underground currents of recent decades.
Under the supervision of Professor Myriam Boucher, he is currently studying for a Doctorate in Music, option Composition et création sonore at the Université de Montréal. His research-creation project seeks to illustrate different sound ecology practices in order to establish models of the genre in the field of electroacoustic music. The aim is to design creative processes at the heart of the environments that surround us, in order to cultivate attention, thoughtfulness and benevolence in our relationships with our surroundings. This ramified relationship to space constitutes a relational and situational musical experience in which sound is employed as the principal element of site-specific works.
Artistic director of the concert company Codes d'accès from 2017 to 2023, he currently sits on the boards of the Canadian Electroacoustic Community (CEC) and Le Vivier. He is also a student member of the Observatoire interdisciplinaire de création et de recherche en musique (OICRM) and student representative of the Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche en musique, médias et technologie (CIRMMT).
