As the technologies powering live performance evolve at an unprecedented pace, from spatial sound systems to AI-assisted instrument design, the music industry faces a defining question: can innovation and sustainability move in the same direction?

The session opens with an introduction by Sergio Parra Aguilera, Research and Programming Manager at the Canadian Live Music Association, presenting the Climate Contingency Roadmap, a landmark climate adaptation initiative for Canada’s live music sector. The panel then brings together practitioners working at the intersection of music and ecological responsibility across design, technology, and touring: Samanatha Melnyk, who has spent six years working with Korg on sustainable product design, materials research, and environmental impact assessment; Grace Xu, Architecture Engagement Global Lead, advocating for sound as an art and building partnerships across the creative and architectural communities; and Chloé Gatignol, coordinator of Court-Circuits, a three year European initiative experimenting with slow-touring in electronic music, and co-curator of Paris Electronic Week.

Moderated by Pauline Bourdon, founder and director of Soliphillia, a sustainability consultancy working at the intersection of live music, climate justice, and social transformation, the conversation explores what it looks like when the tools, technologies, and systems grow with artists rather than against the planet.

The panel is followed by a sustainability meet up with La Piscine.

Please note: this activity will be in English, with live transcription available.
