The future isn't something we'll watch unfold,i t's something we're already inside of. From Olympic ceremony design to AI-driven theatre, today's most exciting work asks audiences to step in. Hosted by Vanessa Costa, Producer Innovation at TIFF: The Market, this series of case studies brings together creatives working at the edge of that shift, examining emerging technologies, new forms of storytelling, underserved audiences, and cross-regional collaboration.

Presentations include:

  • Filmmaster’s Adriano Martella presents Art at the Heart: Ceremonies as Symbiotic Ecosystems, a reflection on the design of Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies as participatory ecosystems, with the beating heart sequence of the Milano Cortina 2026 Opening Ceremony as a central case: a work that moved across ceramic sculpture, digitization, and collective bodies to explore disturbed authorship at planetary scale.

  • Kim Alpert and Sebastian Monroy (Nilor) share the story behind GAWD v. The People, an AI-led theatrical experience and speculative court simulation, selected for the Cannes Immersive Competition 2026, in which 100 audience members become witnesses in a tribunal where humanity is on trial for the right to remain on Earth.

  • Quinn Hopkins (Noodin Studio) presents Sacred Tags, part of MUTEK's Village Numérique digital art circuit, centering Anishinaabe perspectives and urban Indigenous experiences. Sacred Tags is an interactive projection blending graffiti with Anishinaabe language, sacred symbols, and urban imagery. Using augmented reality, viewers trace tags and rock-painting forms into the projection, revealing hidden animations: each mark unveils the story behind it, old ways reawakening through new technology. What if every tag could speak back our histories and keep our languages alive?

  • Hamie Robitaille (TRANSVERSAL) makes the case for interaction as the next step beyond immersion. Sensors and connected objects give agency, turning presence and movement into an active part of the experience. With Parallels, TRANSVERSAL brings this approach into public space through a connected installation designed for collective play, opening new possibilities for participation and shared presence.

Please note: this activity will be in English, with live transcription available.
